What are the conditions treated with MeRT?
MeRT (Magnetic EEG/ECG Resonance Therapy) is a customised use of repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) that can treat various conditions. rTMS is recognised by The Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) to treat Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and is considered a therapeutic option alongside other treatments.
For all other disorders, MeRT or rTMS is currently being used “off-label” in the practice of medicine. RANZCP considers rTMS to be used in a range of other disorders, such as Post-traumatic Stress (PTS), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Substance Dependency, tinnitus and chronic pain conditions. In the United States of America, the treatment is being used with good results to treat Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)/concussion.
rTMS is also used “off-label” for ADHD, Learning Disorders, Dementia, Parkinson’s disease, Anxiety, and other brain disorders. There is variable evidence for use in this area and so Australian guidelines do not recommend use at this current time.
We also use MeRT in research studies together with universities and other parties.
